The new class of the old school

[singlepic id=205 w=150 h=225 float=left]It’s no surprise that country music, the marvelous genre that it is, has undoubtedly strayed from what some would define as traditional country. For one up-and-coming artist, it’s all about following the path of traditionalism while driving modernism.

Considering Chris Young’s is still relatively new to the music business, his bio is adorned with words like traditionalist, legendary and legacy. For those who are new to his work, once they give him a spin, it’s easy to recognize why his music deserves such praise.  Today, in this wide spectrum we call country music, one might question his approach. Young addresses his doubters in his lead track on the 2009 release, “The Man I Want To Be”.

“If that makes me a little old school; Go ahead and call me yesterday’s old fool. If that makes me a little throwback; Throw it at me, don’t worry, I can take that.”

For Young, it’s that old school drive and sexy baritone voice that’s capturing listener’s attention. His most recent charted hit, “Gettin’ You Home”, AKA the little black dress song is a prime example of Young’s ability to modernize a song that could easily be ageless.
