Steel Magnolia

Steel Magnolia

Release Date: January 11, 2011

It seems like forever ago since Big Kenny and Naomi Judd were eyeing up this duo on the second season of CMT original series Can You Duet. While Joshua Scott Jones and Meghan Lindsey managed to not only win over the judges and the fans, it appeared that the boyfriend and girlfriend duo seem to catch the attention of label magnate, Scott Borchetta. Although, it has been a mystery of what was happening during the last two years behind the scenes.

When Jones and Lindsey walked away with the big prize back in 2009, it was almost certain this was going to be a duo destine for “new country” success. With their combined vocal power and the backing of Big Machine Records, Taylor Swift’s label run by Borchetta, Jones and Lindsey were in the fast track to success.

But to my surprise, it’s been a long haul for Steel Magnolia. In February 2010, the duo released their first compiled piece of music and now, almost a year later, Borchetta finally drops the duo’s debut self-titled. An album that should have made it to the shelves several months ago.

Alas, we’ve had some time to digest their EP and even catch them live during Brad Paisley’s summer H2O Tour stop at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre.

To think the two met while karaokeing, it had to have been an act of fate. Lindsey’s bluesy power vocals combined with Jones’ rock swagger and the fact the two are an “item” really creates an almost electric connection between them. I felt this “connection” when the two performed “Edge of Goodbye” last summer and now in “Ooh La La”. Two songs that happen to be penned by the duo.
