Catching up with Katie Armiger

Katie Armiger

Country music sweetheart Katie Armiger has a growing list of friends getting married and having babies, and she admits to sometimes envisioning whether that would have been her if she hadn’t packed up and headed to Nashville as a teen. And just about the moment she starts wondering about life’s little and big decisions, her song comes on the radio…and everything seems right again in her world.

Appearing at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County on November 2, Armiger continues to be a force to be reckoned with on the country music scene. Armiger’s latest single, “Better In A Black Dress”, marks the songstress’s highest debut on Billboard chart and is still climbing. “The song is very fun and flirty,” says Armiger, who wrote the song after she was named by Country Weekly readers the #1 Hottest Bachelorette for the second year in a row. “I wasn’t hearing a lot of females on country radio, so this song let me show off a bit of my independence in that way.”

Taking time to speak to, Armiger says life both on and off the road might not be as glamorous as one might think. “I woke up at 2am this morning, grabbed my dog and got on the bus to head to another show,” the brunette beauty chuckles with the utmost charm. “My day has been filled with interviews and sound checking, but I try to keep things in perspective. When I get to sign autographs and go out for meet and greets with my fans, it definitely humbles you and makes you thankful for what you have.”

Opening for the likes of Dierks Bentley, Eli Young Band and Brad Paisley among others, Armiger says she looks forward to a career that allows her to continue bringing a ‘traditional yet modern sound’ to country music. “I look up to plenty of females in the industry such as Trisha Yearwood and Sarah Buxton, but I love not being tied to one particular style,” she concludes. “I am just a girl that loves music, and so far, my career has definitely exceeded my expectations.”
